19/04/1998 - Bern, Switzerland:
The second busking pitch was firing well, but two guys started talking to me about (naturally) religion. They were Pentecostal. Both were likely in their twenties.
After their opening blurb, I told them I found the Pentecostal service more appealing than the sombre funeral style and stuffy church organ of many other established churches. I am aware that they also do some very effective work, helping people with problems re-align their life into some sort of control.
When one of the guys spoke of his joy at having 'Jesus inside', I told him I was very happy for him.... because I was.
However he may choose to label it, he is connected to the positive energies - and therefore he can make a pleasing difference to many people.
Pressed for my opinion, I said, " We all need some system of belief, so religion has an importance. I think all religions are valid, as long as they seek to offer good energy."

Unfortunately, even well intentioned religions have a tendency to be asking, " Which are you? Celtic or Rangers?"
Thus came the question,
"Do you believe Jesus is the son of God?"
To this, I replied, " How can a father have a son if there is no woman? I think Jesus would have found it impossible to fully explain the highest power to fisherman and ordinary people 2,000 years ago. The only way to give some idea would be to provide an analogy along lines they could understand."

The Greeks spoke of their Gods having sons and daughters. The Greeks had ruled Palestine for a lengthy period from the time of Alexander the Great.
The Jewish religion spoke of a Messiah (saviour) - a King to lead them to full autonomy.
But it is easy to see how the Greek cultural influence made the talk of Messiah into the Son of God..... but I didn't go into that.
All I said was, " It doesn't matter whether there was a trinity, whether Jesus was the Son of God or what Gender God is... if any! What matters is the connection to the force of Good. Good intentions!"

But, in the manner of spiritual zealots, I guess these guys had their set ideas and would like the whole world to have the same set ideas. On why that is..?
Who knows?
Only the Astral Layer theory seems to come up with any plausible answer.

The same guy then said, " Jesus will introduce us to the Good Life!"
This fired me further, " What is the Good Life? It seems to me that you need to experience the despair of bad times to appreciate the value of good times. How can you know the difference without this?"

Post journal comment: The peasants wanted bread because they had none. Marie Antoinette said, "If there is no bread, let them eat cake!"
If the peasants had eaten cake all their lives - and suddenly cake was rare?
And if Marie had said, "There is no cake? Then they must eat bread." ?
Either way, there is revolution.

It is hard to imagine the Swiss having the key to spiritual guidance, because their whole culture is geared to material reciprocation. The impression I get is that their spirituality is limitless, unless it costs money.

So I continued, " If Jesus was alive right now and living as he seemed to in his previous life, he would be doing much the same as me: living penniless, or close to it, if he were in Switzerland. He would likely choose music and the written word to pass on his message."
To preach in the middle of the Baren Platz would not likely be effective.
But to write songs that can make you weep, because you feel the potency of the message?
To write books that will inspire minds and souls the world over?
With the strength of the higher force behind him he could reach the heart and soul of everyone on this planet (through the use of modern media)... to be accepted or rejected... one way or another.
Post journal comment: Of course, the modern media may require him to do something sensational before they will deign to notice him. Perhaps he could convert Madonna?

One thing is fairly certain though:
He will be deported from Switzerland for being an Ausland vagrant.
To be thus is the greatest sin to the Swiss mind.

Post journal comment: I'd care to bet that the average Swiss will find this article highly amusing. They are perfectly able to laugh at themselves. Perhaps it's a co-incidence that they also abhor violence and anti-social behaviour.
