LED
ZEPPELIN were the kings of
the Seventies. You rarely heard them on the radio here in the UK, but
word of mouth was enough. They were the secret of plugged in youth,
mainly ignored by the BBC much as the BBC would have preferred to
ignore the Beatles and the Stones. You didn't hear LED ZEPPELIN on the
radio. You simply went out and bought their albums with a blind faith.
STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN came second in a BBC poll for the best song of the
Seventies, yet it was never a single. How tuned out were the media to
ignore the richest band in the world? Of course, most people didn't understand what the hell the lyrics to STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN meant. We were mainly like a dog taken to the vet for doctoring. It knows its wanting something, but it can't remember what. So we applied our own meanings, which were usually just as valid as the lyricist. Great Music from the Seventies: Next |
